Comparison of Language Courses
I have used multiple language courses over the years, and wanted to compare some of them here for you.
These comparisons are between The Rosetta Stone, 'Tell Me More' Series, and the SureFire French Course system.
I feel that all courses have their benefits, but wanted to go into a little more detail below:
Rosetta Stone Language Courses
The Rosetta Stone Language Courses are well designed, put together, and are available as both a CD ROM Pack, an also as an online course.
It should be noted that if you buy the online course, you have a set time that you may go online to do the course (for 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, and so on).
With the CD Rom course, you can of course use it for any length of time. However, another advantage, if you are travelling, and using other computers that are not yours, the online course is great.
The features of the
Rosetta Stone Course
are more detailed in other areas too.
They use the Dynamic Immersion Technique, which is similar to our language learning methods when we were young.
They also have a wide customer base, including the US Military, as well as muti national corporations.
Many executives have been known to use this course too.
The course is generally a wll presented and workable solution to learning a language in record time, if you are determined to put the effort in.
Rosetta Stone: New Version 3!
The Tell Me More Series
I have found the 'Tell Me More' series of language courses to be excellant.
They are available as CD ROM packs only, and are usually available in three levels.
The company also provide a headset with their products, and the programme includes online assistance for a short period after purchase too.
The programme is well pressented, with the user getting a particularly in depth exosure to grammar and audio presentations, as well as speech recognition systems built n.
With determined effort, the programme is very intensive, and able to be successfully completed in a period of several weeks, if worked on a full time basis.
I have found that many people tend to retain more, if they are able to work on the prgramme over a longer perdiod of time, where the facts can be more strongly impregnated into your memory.
As with most things, practice is key.

The SureFire French Package
As you can tell from the title, the primamry comparisonal difference is that this course is a one language course, rather than the multi lingual options offered by the other programmes like Rosetta Stone or Tell Me More.
However, I felt it deserved a mention, as it provides some benefits, and is aimed at a particular market, that may not e looking for a fluent base, but rather a more generalised base of a few phrases, and the like for a quick trip to France.
The package also includes a memory enhancement bonus. This in itself can have a profound affect on your long term results in many projects, as the exercises are well laid and thought out.
The package also includes software for a matching game and flash cards.
I feel the programme is great value for all that is included, and the price, but again, for a more in depth programme for a full language experience, the preceeding two are trumps!
