The Importance of Exercise to help Reduce Stress

The need to exercise, as well as the need to reduce stress is very important as part of a general health programme is well known.

Perhaps, for some, the reason is not well known.

Chemicals are produced in our bodies when we are under stress- namely adrenaline and cortisol.

These are normal reactions, and are caused through our body's need to protect ourselves when in a 'flight or fight' response- a common by product of stress.

This stems from prehistoric times when we needed to run away from danger relatively often.

Adrenaline gives us energy, and our memory is improved by the chemical, cortisol.

You may be asking where this ties in with exercise...

Exercise is an excellant way, coupled with deep relaxation techniques, as mentioned in other areas of this website, to reduce stress, and in some cases, eliminate it completely.

This is extremely important, as sress that is allowed to constantly increase, without a preasure release valve, must, at some point casuse us a demise, and sometimes in very devastating ways, like stroke and the like.

Exercise allows the body to tone up, as well as provide endorphins, which greatly reduce stress and actually make us 'happier'.

Another site, Fit for Life, takes the holistic approach to wellbeing. Information on diets, exercise, nutrition, spiritual guidance and meditation. It will help you to look younger and live a healthier life.

Summary for the Need for Exercise

To explain this a little further, when we are very stressed, the hormones in our body need to be ‘flushed’ away.

This also includes the chemical, cortisol, which affects our brains, and we tend to then become forgetful, and sometimes, more worried.

The best way to use up and release the chemicals our body produces is through regular exercise and stress reduction techniques.

Be the best you can be- exercise regularly, even if it is a light walk around the block.

It is surprising to many people, how simple a little extra exercise can be.

Many report that they feel better, and by this alone, they tend to then start to exercise a little more and so on. This also benefits the muscles, which feeel more tones, and can help us feel a little more motivated.

I have included a link to another site that discusses aerobic activity, and the benefits that it can create for the human body.

I have felt that as long as a person is exercising, the benefits will shine through, in the form of stress reduction, as well as a happier and easier outlook on life.

More will be mentioned on motivation on our motivation page.

As an added consideration, massage can be very healing for the body, and relaxaing.

One such site, discussing massage is Chair Massage.
